VAH-10 KA-3B Skywarrior

VAH-10Commissioned at NAS Whidbey Island, WA, on May 1, 1961, VAH-10 was the last HATRON to be activated and was originally equipped with the A-3D2 Skywarrior. During the Vietnam War detachments from Heavy Attack Squadron 10 were deployed on aircraft carriers operating on Yankee and Dixie Stations. VAH-10 became a detachment squadron, with its Skywarriors deploying seven times to the Gulf of Tonkin between June, 1966, and August, 1970. The squadron was re-designated Electronic Attack Squadron 129 — VAQ-129 on September 1, 1970.

Vikings Deploy on USS Coral Sea 4th Vietnam Combat Cruise

VAH-10 VikingsOn September 7, 1968, Squadron VAH-10 Detachment 43 deployed with KA-3B Skywarrior aircraft for the 4th USS Coral Sea Vietnam Combat Cruise until the ship returned on April 18, 1969.

On refueling station for aircraft returning from sorties in country on February 18, 1969, there was an unsuccessful fuel consolidation with two KA-3B aircraft, leaving a drogue streaming fuel. VAH-10 KA-3B BuAer 138943 lost radio contact and disappeared from radar. After an extensive ship and aircraft search of over 1,000 miles it was concluded the KA-3B crashed and the crew was lost at sea.
